To celebrate the centennial anniversary of the American Legion, the U.S. Mint has released an impressive series of commemorative coins. This 2019-P American Legion Silver Dollar Proof, struck from 0.8594 Troy oz. of .999 fine silver at the Philadelphia Mint, was issued along with a specially minted Veterans Medal in the American Legion 100th Anniversary 2019 Proof Silver Dollar and Medal Set.
The coin is Ultra Cameo, First Release and has the Liberty Flag label.
The obverse design by Paul C. Balan and Renata Gordon features the Legion’s star emblem surrounded by oak leaves and a lily blossom, which represent strength, devotion and memory. Inscriptions include “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “2019.”
“100 YEARS OF SERVICE” is inscribed on the reverse, between a fleur-de-lis and the crossed flags of the Legion and U.S. The design by Patricia Lucas-Morris and Michael Gaudioso is additionally inscribed “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1919,” “2019,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “$1.”
